Leiden purchased oldest painting by Rembrandt

As the oldest known painting of Rembrandt, The Brill seller, is now owned by the municipality of Leiden and the Museum De Lakenhal.
Rembrandt painted the canvas in his hometown Leiden around 1623-1624. After nearly 400 years, the city of Leiden finally has a painting by Rembrandt in its own possession for the first time.
The municipality and the museum did not give any announcement over the identity of the seller and the purchase price.
