The Netherlands is in some respects more positive in thinking.

A majority of the population has confidence in each other, in politics, in the police and the legal system.

The research by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) shows that the confidence has increased over the period 2002-2010.

The Netherlands is therefore leading the way with Scandinavian countries in what the CBS calls “the social, political and institutional trust”.

In 2010, 67 percent of Dutch people have faith in other people, which in 2002 is 58 percent.

Furthermore, as of 2002, there has been a sharp increase in confidence in the judiciary and the police. The political confidence also grew, but it stagnated in 2008.

As for the trust in people in Europe, only the Scandinavians are above the Dutch. The neighboring countries Germany (35 percent) and Belgium (43%) percent are behind.
