Huge price difference at gas stations

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

The price for a full tank of gas varies greatly for each pump.

Between the cheapest and most expensive Dutch station, there is a difference of more than eighteen euro for a tank of fifty liters Euro 95, according to NRC.

The cheapest gas station is on the border with Belgium in Baarle-Hertog. The most expensive station is in Alkmaar.

Interestingly enough, both of the pump stations are owned by Texaco. The owner in Alkmaar would not comment on why the prices vary so much. It would involve “exceptional circumstances”.

Many gas stations sell their gasoline at retail prices that are much lower than the oil companies issue. Especially it is quite competitive at local level. The unmanned pumping station often forces the gas station nearby to lower the price.
