According to TNO, over twenty thousand people get serious hearing damage during the night per year. The noise can cause hearing loss or make people hypersensitive to sound. “The group with damage grows only because it cannot be resolved,” said Paul Heerd from the National Hearing Foundation. “It is therefore very important that something is finally carried out.”
Along with Club Judge and with the support of the Friends Lottery, a campaign is launched to educate young people about the dangers of loud noise. The first Ear-Safe mark is hung in AIR. To receive a mark, clubs must hang up a readable decibel meter and the music cannot be louder than 103 decibel.
The hope is that the measures will literally save lives. There have been cases of youngsters who have committed suicide because the life with a constant loud beep is intolerable.
