Amerigo, the horse that Sinterklaas has ridden for more than 20 years to bring packages on Sinterklaas night is going to retire.
The saint expressed his love for his horse on Wednesday but it is time for the almost 30 years old horse to enjoy his old age benefits. Amerigo’s task will be taken over by another horse when Sinterklaas arrives in Dordrecht on Saturday.
Sinterklaas thinks it is a pity. “When people ask me: Sinterklaas, what is your dearest possession? I hesitate between The Book and The Horse. Then I opt for Amerigo because it is warm and the book is cold,” said the saint. The horse will enjoy his retirement in a meadow on the Veluwe. “I will surely visit Amerigo now and then,” said sinterklaas.
