The wreck that has been found by sports divers in the beginning of October near Borneo turned out to be the Dutch submarine Hr.Ms. K XVI which perished in December of 1941.

That is concluded by the experts from the Royal Navy who studied the images that were taken by the divers, according to Defense Ministry.

The Hr.Ms. K XVI sank with 36 people on board by a torpedo from a Japanese submarine.

Matthieu Borsboom, Commander Naval Forces, informed the survivors about the news that the submarine is located after 70 years.

The Navy lost seven submarines in World War II. The Hr.Ms. K XVI is the fifth one that is traced since 1982.
