
Men who became father last year were 34 years old on average and the mothers were 3 years younger. One in six fathers was over 40 when his child is born, reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
Compared to other European countries, Dutch parents are a bit older. For example, Norwegian fathers averaged 33.4 years old at the birth of their child and British fathers 32.5 years old. But the age difference between fathers and mothers is also 3 years.
In 2010, parents were on average one year older than in 1996. For the last seven years, the average age of parents at the birth of a child stays basically the same.
