Next year, the poverty in the Netherlands is expected to rise. Especially children, single parents, single people and people on welfare will have a difficult time.

 

Self-employed people will also be more frequently in financial distress, according to the joint report by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP).

Over 2011 and 2012, there are altogether estimated 60,000 households with low income. According to calculations, the number of households with low income grows from 529,000 to 561,000 in 2011, which is 8.1 percent of the total. In 2012, CBS and SCP expect an increase up to 588,000 poor households (8.5 percent).
