Gyms are in tough situation due to the economic recession and intense competition. Especially, small independent gyms lack customers. Large chain can survive but have less freedom because consumers dictate the market.

FitVak, the trade association of over 900 affiliated gyms, stressed that there was considerable tension on the market. “There are more providers than sporters. It is logical that it gets blow,” said Ronald Wouters, the director of FitVak.

Moreover, the unchained sports schools are in war to compete with each other.
